SARS Database Administrator Job Description
WANTED: An exciting opportunity is available for a forward thinking, self-motivated and dynamic individual that enjoys challenges. Preferably this person should have experience in at least one programming language and therefor understand development challenges. The applicant will be responsible for the installation, configuration, optimization and maintenance of DB2 databases on an AIX platform. After hour availability and rotational standby forms part of the requirement for this role.
Job Purpose
To ensure that SARS database environments are sustainable, available 24/7 and are running optimally and to analyse information requirements and design database systems.
Education and Experience
Relevant National Diploma / Advanced Certificate (NQF 6) AND 2-3 years’ experience in a (DB2 LUW) of which 1-2 years ideally at knowledge worker level
OR
Senior Certificate (NQF 4) AND Relevant IT Qualification / Certification AND 2-3 years’ experience in (DB2 LUW)
OR
Senior Certificate (NQF 4) and 5 years experience in (DB2 LUW).
Relevant technical experience:
- Experience with large, high volume transaction environments
- Query troubleshooting and optimisation
- Installation and configuration of databases
- Performance tuning
- Backup/Recovery of databases
In the following technologies:
IBM DB2 LUW
- Relevant certification or part of
- AIX/Linux scripting (Basic)
- DB2 Optimisation
- Experience with HADR
Outputs
- Accumulate information and provide reports with recommendations applicable to area of specialisation.
- Apply practical and applied knowledge and act authoritatively on methods, systems and procedures to identify trends and potential risks.
- Communication of situational interpretation and judgement of work outputs and queries in area of specialisation.

- Apply processes to improve data validation across service delivery systems in line with operational targets.
- Test database, development and other related technical issues across relevant systems and technologies.
- Take accountability for delivery of contracted work outputs within agreed parameters, quality standards and client service targets.
