SARS Snr Systems Engineer – Linux Job Description
Purpose
To perform Linux Systems Engineering activities for all IT projects; include maintaining the hardware / firmware / operating system / software / application server software and meet service levels agreements. The Senior Linux Systems Engineers work in both production and non-production environmentsThe role requires a good understanding of Linux Systems Administration including modern Docker, OpenShift, Kurbenetes and Cloud technologies. Of particular importance is experience working with Redhat, SuSE and Ubuntu systems.
Minimum Qualification & Experience Required
Relevant National Diploma/ Advance Certificate (NQF6) in IT or related field with 3-4 years’ experience in Linux Systems engineering environment.
Knowledge of Linux Systems Administration, modern Docker, OpenShift, Kurbenetes and Cloud technologies.
Experience in working with Redhat, SuSE and Ubuntu systems.OR
Senior Certificate (NQF 4) AND Relevant IT Qualification (s) / Certification (s) –, AND minimum 5 years’ experience in Linux Systems Administration AND additional requirements specified in Min Functional requirements, where applicable.
Wintel Intel Server: (A+, MCSA, MCSE and related Server Operating System and Hardware certification related to server support), or VMWare Certification OR AiX: IBM AiX Certified Engineer, PowerHA, IBM Systems Director or relevant certification OR Mainframe: IBM zOS/systems Certified Engineer or any other relevant certification OR LINUX: SuSE Certified Professional or Linux Professional Certified Level 2 or Redhat Certified Technician OR Storage: Storage Management and backup/Restore Certification or any other relevant certification OR WAS: IBM WebSphere Application Server Certified System Administrator or any other relevant certification
Alternatively
Senior Certificate (NQF 4) AND 6 years Linux Systems engineering related experience.

To Assist Build and Support Docker, OpenShift and Other Cloud Infrastruture tools to run SARS IT projects.
To Assist Build, Install and Configure Ubuntu, Redhat and SuSE Operating Systems in High Availability Server Environments.
To Assist Build and Configure Highly Available Filesystems such as GFS and OCFS2 for clustered SAP Environments
Accumulate information and provide reports with recommendations applicable to area of specialisation.
Apply practical and applied knowledge and act authoritatively on methods, systems and procedures to identify trends and potential risks.

Be responsible for building and implementing system architecture and for the identification and resolution of high level hardware and software technical problems and malfunctions related to the systems architecture.

To be responsible for maintaining, testing, support and upgrades of in-house developed applications and 3rd Party Applications.
Interact and communication with customers as required, keeping them informed of incident progress, notifying them of impending changes or agreed outages
To manage the Regional Data Centres, respond to alerts, monitor dashboard, and periodic system review
To configure, debug and support multiple infrastructure platforms and software
To design and deploy new applications and enhancements to existing applications, software, and operating systems. Prod / non-Prod
Developing, maintaining and supporting technical infrastructure, hardware and system software components and developed applications
To do installations, configuration, testing and maintenance of SARS’ operating systems, application software and system management tools
To conduct in-depth root-cause analysis for service interruption recovery and creating preventive measures
